YouTuber Lewis Howes hosted one of Kobe Bryant’s final and most powerful interviews—available now on his channel. This conversation is a must-watch for every basketball fan, no matter your age.

This post takes inspiration from that interview, with one mission: to motivate you, the next generation of hoopers. Kobe’s message is clear—success isn’t about shortcuts. It’s about trusting the process, putting in the work, and staying disciplined every single day.
1. He trained every day, no excuses
Kobe explained that the difference between him and most players was simple math:
- Most kids trained 1 or 2 times a week, about an hour and a half each session.
- He did it 2 to 3 hours every single day, 7 days a week.
- Result: in one year he was already ahead, and in two years the leap was “quantum.”
2. Step-by-step methodology (long-term plan)
After scoring zero points in an entire summer league at age 11, he decided to organize his training like this:
- First 6 months: only shooting, nothing else.
- Then: creating his own shot.
- Next: adding range (15 feet, then three-pointers).
All structured like a “menu”: each summer he added a new skill until he mastered it.

3. Obsession with fundamentals
While others relied on their athleticism, Kobe said:
“I practiced the basics: shooting, moving without the ball, technical fundamentals.”
In the end, when his body matured, fundamentals plus physical ability made him unstoppable.
4. Extra sessions and invisible work
When everyone went to eat at camps, he went back to the gym to train.
If a rival wanted to impress by arriving early, Kobe was already there before him and stayed longer
“I wanted to show I would outwork anyone”.
Even after games, he watched the entire recording to study details: body language, strategy, positioning.
5. Team routine / leadership
When he went out partying with teammates, the next day he’d wake them up at 5am to train together.
He taught with discipline that you couldn’t let social life ruin the ultimate goal: winning the championship.
